2012 Categories
Categories are broken down to cover individual pieces and campaigns or series. For purposes of quick accounting, ‘Single’ categories are priced at $85 per entry, and ‘Campaign’ or ‘Series’ are priced at $110, Public Service at $40. There are some changes this year so read carefully!
Advertising
1. Newspaper Single
Includes any paid daily, or weekly newspaper insertions, black & white or colour.
1.1. Newspaper Series
Must be a minimum of two entries. Includes any paid daily, or weekly newspaper insertions, black & white or colour.
2. Magazine Single
Includes any paid media insertions, black & white or colour.
2.1. Magazine Series
Must be a minimum of two entries. Includes any paid media insertions, black & white or colour.
3. Business to Business
Includes any paid newspaper or magazine insertion where the intended audience is a business. (Creative entered in B2B cannot be entered in Print Single or vice versa.)
4. Non-Traditional / Guerilla (non-paid media)
Does not fit into any other categories. Formats include guerilla tactics, wild postings, stunts, ambient advertising & anything else not covered anywhere else
5. Out of Home (Single)
Includes POP, washroom advertising, floor advertising, elevator advertising, street furniture advertising including garbage receptacles, mobile media including trucks, cabs & car wraps, interior transit, mall posters, restaurant/bar/campus advertising.
5.1. Out of Home (Series)
Must be a minimum of two entries. Includes POP, washroom advertising, floor advertising, elevator advertising, street furniture advertising including garbage receptacles, mobile media including trucks, cabs & car wraps, interior transit, mall posters, restaurant/bar/campus advertising.
6. TV Single over $30,000
Could include cinema; total production costs must exceed $30,000
6.1. TV Single under $30,000
Could include cinema; total production costs cannot exceed $30,000
6.2. TV Series
Must be a minimum of two TV single advertisements.
6.3. Non-Broadcast
Includes YouTube/Viral/etc… Excludes cinema and TV.
7. Outdoor Single
Large formats including billboards, superboards, posters, backlit posters, transit shelters, digital billboards, all exterior bus signs, wall murals, parking lot advertising.
7.1. Outdoor Series
Must be a minimum of two entries using these media; Large formats including billboards, superboards, posters, backlit posters, transit shelters, digital billboards, all exterior bus signs, wall murals, parking lot advertising.
8. Radio Single
Advertisements developed and broadcast on commercial radio.
8.1. Radio Series
Must be a minimum of two advertisements developed and broadcast on commercial radio.
9. Direct Marketing (Traditional or Digital)
Includes all traditional direct mail or email marketing*. Does not include greeting cards, see Self Promotion for these items.
* Must be to opt-in subscribers only, no unsolicited email i.e. “spam”. Category can include serialized email communications, such as newsletters.
10. Advertising Campaign
Must be a combination of at least 3 different media; eg: Print, Outdoor/Out of Home, Interactive.
* A maximum of 3 executions of each media may be submitted. Follow relevant material instructions for each media type.
** Interactive – material required: a functional site at a public URL, any necessary password(s), less than 10 steps to navigate through the site, images of the site on a CD. Entry must be compliant with applicable privacy regulations at the time it was in market.
***In addition to the above requirements, video case studies are accepted.
Design
11. Brochure / Catalogue
Product or service brochure; or product, school or exhibition catalogue.
12. Poster Design Single
Exhibition, institutional, artist and company promotion, theatre, gallery, etc.
12.1. Poster Design Series
Minimum of two posters; exhibition, institutional, artist and company promotion, theatre, gallery, etc.
13. Logo
Trademark. (please center logo on 8.5×11 sheet, place company name and nature of business next to the mark.)
13.1. Corporate Identity Package
Company business paper series; business card, letterhead, envelope, note cards, address labels, invoice/purchase, etc.
14. Self-Promotion
Includes any item designed by a firm or individual for the purposes of self-promotion including invitations, greeting cards, calendars, posters, wearables, packaging, etc.
15. Annual Report
Annual reports for publicly traded, private and non-profit organizations.
16. Package Design
Package, single record, CD, DVD, video, software, shopping bag, food packaging, product packaging and label designs.
17. Environmental Design (temporary or semi-permanent or permanent)
Signage, interior, architectural graphics, museum exhibits, tradeshow exhibits, POP display, etc.
Interactive
Material required: a functional site at a public URL, any necessary password(s), less than 10 steps to navigate through the site, images of the site on a CD. Entry must be compliant with applicable privacy regulations at the time it was in market.
18. Best Use of Social Media
The use of existing social media (i.e. Facebook, Twitter, Flickr). Excludes YouTube or viral videos which have been entered in Non-Broadcast.
19. Display ad Single
Web banner fixed OR dynamic, includes mobile advertising.
19.1. Display Ad Series
Must be a minimum of two entries. Web banner fixed OR dynamic, includes mobile advertising.
20. Website Over $75,000
Includes clients primary website, promotional websites and microsites.
May or may not be time limited. Can include contests. Total production costs must exceed $75,000. (Encompasses year-to-date budget. Site must have gone live in calendar year)

Includes clients primary website, promotional websites and microsites.

Public Service
Refers to advertising created for charitable organizations to promote a public service message or ads created on behalf of registered not-for-profit organizations. Follow media instructions for each media type.
21. Public Service / not-for-profit television *
Any broadcast TV or non-broadcast video developed for a not-for-profit or charity organization.
21.1 Public Service / not-for-profit print *
Print advertising developed for a not-for-profit or charity organization.
21.2 Public Service / not for profit radio *
Radio advertising developed for a not-for-profit or charity organization.
21.3 Public Service / not for profit interactive *
Interactive work developed for a not-for-profit or charity organization.
21.4 Public Service / not for profit design *
Design work developed for a not-for-profit or charity organization.
*Submissions in these categories can still be entered into other categories
Illustration/Photography
Refers to visuals created for use in any advertisement, design, or interactive communication.
